8 and Great!!

Last night after work I headed over to the new bowling alley where about 14 little guys were gathered up to celebrate Brannen's birthday!

(I can't say for sure, but I felt like when I walked in all the pre-teens behind the counter were whispering, "Oh no, here comes that girl who bowled a 44 a couple weeks ago.")

Thankfully I didn't have to face the alleys again just yet - by the time I got there all the little cuties were running around in the laser tag area having the complete time of their 7 and 8 year-old lives.

The Birthday Boy shooting his friends with intense glee!

Brannen and Will have always had such amazingly fun birthday parties, and this one was no different. Bowling, laser tag, cake, ice cream, arcade games galore - Ashley does it up right!

All the guys grouped up like a gaggle of geese about to go look at their Laser Tag scores. MOST EXCITING MOMENT OF THEIR LIVES THUS FAR.

I would like to pause for a moment to address an controversial issue.

How does a child go from this...

To this....

...in one second flat?

I need answers.

Of course my child Will was also there celebrating his big bro. He kept busy by being adorable and talking me into following him around to all the games so I that could hold all of his many tickets.

Let's just say he didn't have to persuade me too much. I'm a Will groupie. Always have been.

The fruits of his game-playing labor.

How did he ever live without a huge green balloon?

We gladly welcomed it into the fam for as long as it lives (which will probably be about 48 hours tops.)

It was SUCH a fun night of celebrating one of the sweetest boys I know! Happy 8th Birthday, Big B!

Thanks given

Well sufficed to say, no one in this family got skinnier this holiday.

We had a great Thanksgiving weekend starting on Thursday when we ate like it was the last meal we'd ever eat. (Thankfully we'd live to eat again just a few short hours later in what would lovingly be referred to as Round 2.)

Daddy, Gram, and my uncle Ashley enjoying some crackers and dip while we waited for the main attractions to be cooked.

We feel that alternating between cream cheese with pepper jelly and crab dip is the way to go for complete appetizer enjoyment.

Just like all the other dads in America, Big Al took some time out to perfect his gameday commercial.

Meanwhile, Debbie took slices of the strawberry cake my uncle made up to our favorite cashier at the Country Store. Sugar addicts unite.

But hey - you won't hear me judging anybody for their addictions. You know what they say...when you point your finger at someone you have 3 pointing back at yourself and sometimes those three fingers have a death grip on an aluminum can.

I am THANKFUL for my mama!

"Jenna Babe, what do you think happened here with this crumble topping?" -Big Al before putting the sweet potato souffle in the oven.

"Yeah I got nothing. But I'm sure I'll still eat it." -JT

Daddy doing the honors.

This next picture makes my heart go out to all the vegetarians out there.

(The after pic of the sweet potatoes.) Mmmm! Crumbly! (Yeah, not even a little.)

MOMENT OF SILENCE for the very last picture my beloved camera ever took. What a way to go out, though.

In between these pictures (when the camera would not turn on and the reality was setting it) there was panic, disbelief, sadness, and Alan saying "well uh - what about filming the commercial??"

You can imagine how well that went over in the midst of my despair.

But there was also joy because just as soon as I was thinking there would be no Thanksgiving pictures and no pictures of Matthew and Larsen's first shower in the days to come (post to come), Deb remembered that my aunt left her camera at our house a couple weekends ago.

And just like that - all was not lost.

Picture #1 with DD's camera. I would like to make a note here that I had no idea how to work her camera, so I cannot be held responsible for the quality of any of the pictures you see on this blog from this day forward.

I can't lie - the sight of our meal helped ease my pain.

Turkey, ham, dressing, gravy, cranberry sauce, broccoli casserole, green bean casserole, potato souffle, butter beans, rice, rutabagas, and deviled eggs. (And we also serve a side dish of butter, apparently.)

I actually think Thanksgiving is a GREAT day for something valuable to break because you are already in the mindset of thanking the Lord for all the things that really are irreplaceable.

Like family...

And friends!

We were so excited that my mom's friend, Jo, and her husband were able to join us Thanksgiving this year!

And Iris was there, of course.

I'm so glad she doesn't have a computer because she would kill me for putting up a picture with her eyes closed. Gram, if you ever figure out what the Internet is, how to get on it, AND somehow find my blog - please accept my sincere apology.

I mean....what is there left to say.

Jo and John - we LOVED having them. They were cracking us up the whole meal.

Mama and Daddy

Gram...89 years later and STILL hasn't tired of Thanksgiving food. That brings a lot of hope to my generation.

Ashley and Iris. We were so excited to have Ashley with us, too.

Jo cutting the pumpkin pie as the crowd looks on in anticipation and awe.

It really was a great day filled with lots of great food and even greater friends and fam!

Just a friendly reminder that I had still not mastered the settings on the camera at this point. But I do heart Big Al.

Deb and the cake she smuggled in from her dealer at the Country Store.

Later, after I caught her red-handed and after the cake had been consumed I asked, "So, how was it?"

To which she closed her eyes, held up her hand and said, "Jenna, you don't even KNOW."

Something else we were VERY thankful for this T-giving was getting a chance to go over and visit our dear friends Mildred (left) and her daughter, Theresa! Mildred and Theresa both kept me and Matthew when we were little, and we had not seen them in YEARS (shameful). We heart them in a serious way.

They were as sweet and hilarious as ever and we had so much fun catching up. Seeing them was just another something special to be thankful for this year.

Mama and I ended the evening by going to see Morning Glory at the movies with Jo and John. Then it was back home for that Round 2 I spoke of earlier, filming Daddy's commercial, and getting packed up for our road trip to Columbus the next morning.

We had even more reasons to give thanks in the days to come!

{Sneak Peak!}

GATA

I cannot express to you the amount of technical difficulties Big Al and I have faced this season trying to get these commercials recorded and uploaded.

There was a good chance last week's commercial was going to be the last (if GSU lost), but because the Eagles are determined to be awesome and make all of our dreams come true, they beat Furman and will be back at Paulson for Round One of the playoffs on Saturday.

Happy Thanksgiving, GSU fans. Love, The Eagles

I guess it was only fitting that the technical difficulty gods (demons) kept the BIG ONE for last.

Yesterday, from what I can tell, we said goodbye to my beloved camera. My bff. My permanent hand attachment.

I had just taken a picture of our Thanksgiving feast and....just like that...it was gone. I guess it thought it had taken the ultimate picture and really what could ever top such magnificence?

Thankfully I recently got a new computer (you know, since my other died at the end of August - a theme is what you are seeing) so I opened up Al's world to a new (and improved) way of recording his video.

At first he was not sure. But he warmed up to it. Wow, you really can teach an old dog new tricks.

Here is the VERY first take (it was really just a practice round) to see what he thought.

But of course - all the trouble and technological heartache is worth it though, and we are SOOO excited for Saturday!

GO EAGLES! BEAT SC STATE!

Happy Happy

Happy Thanksgiving!

I could write a blog post every day of every week for every year I am blessed enough to walk this earth and STILL not be able to cover all that I am thankful for.

Sweet family, funny friends, a (crazy) job, health, happiness, and everything in between.

Dark days, troubles, sufferings, unmet desires, and questions big and small are all a part of our daily life, but I am SOOO grateful for the hope we have in Christ that allows us to know that despite what we face HE IS ABUNDANT!

He gives us all we need, and I bet we can all agree that He outdoes Himself time after time after time.

Now, let's eat.

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow." -Melody Beattie

Slowing it down

Last night was a chill night at The Hagan's.

Marlee's home from college, Marsha's recovering ankle (full of screws and plates and I don't even want to know what else) is propped up high in the sky, and really there is nothing left to do but slow it down and relax.

And as history has shown us, no one does this better than Phoebe.

And she is never far from her injured master's side.

The house, as usual, was full of fun people. Marsha's son Justin (we grew up/graduated together) was there, as well as a couple of Marlee's friends, and of course The Jakester.

Jake came to the top of the stairs during the evening in complete shock and wonderment because another sweet and highly missed friend made an appearance!

One of our dear and hilarious college girls, Meghan, graced us with her long overdue presence.

She came bearing knitting needles so she and Marlee could reunite together on the couch with their yarn and knit a clutch and scarf, respectively.

Here they are last year about this time.

They have knit (knitted? knat? someone ask their grandmama and get back to me) so many cute things. I have such talented friends!

And, please know - they are very serious using this talent for the common good. Megh's determination shown below.

(Mar grabbing a drink in order to ward off possible dehydration.)

I don't blame them because there is a bare neck epidemic going on out there and the only cure is scarves. I commend them for doing their part.

Meghan also got the scoop on the ankle. She is a registered EMT, so she needed all the details.

Justin was there to laugh at my inappropriate jokes and help Phoebe from one spot to another. She couldn't find it within herself to walk across the room.

There are many nights I can be found on The Hagan couch. Tis a sweet and fun place to be, especially surrounded by dear friends who are funny and precious and clever and sweet and can make very cute scarves.
