January 23, 2012

Lately

Life has been full of it's usual shenanigans, and every day when I write the date I think something along the lines of "How is already January 5th? (10th? 20th? 23rd?)"

I guess it really is true about what they say about what happens to time when you're having fun! (Or just being incredibly boring). :-)

Honestly, most of my time has been spent here at office 1116F.

1116F makes me happy. (This picture was actually taken in the first weeks of my new job before papers scattered across my desk at an unbelievable rate and that window sill filled up with stacks of folders and plants and such.)

When I haven't been working, I've really just been hanging around. (Phoebe demonstrates).

There has been the usual randomness.

Catching a movie here and there.

Gaming at the Hagan's kitchen table.

And missing little to no meals and snacks along the way.

There was some medical excitement around the beginning of the month. Back in October, I had 3 suspicious moles on my back biopsied. And because apparently my skin is an overachiever, they all came back abnormal.

No real cause for concern, but basically off they had to go! In order to keep my back from looking like a mine field, I enlisted a plastic surgeon to do the job of removing them completely. And because I have, in the past, had a tendency to pass out during these types of things - I went armed.

My mother swears that if you eat a Snickers and drink a real Coke, you will not pass out. I don't really know if this works or not, but I can't imagine why I would turn down such a combination.

I also threw in some anti-anxiety meds for good measure and I will tell you - that combo worked like a charm.

Thankfully all 3 of the spots came back with no cancerous cells. The bad news was that after the surgery I realized that one the moles my doctor (whom I love) removed was actually not the correct one. Because of this, I had to go back to Savannah and get a fourth removed. (My back currently looks like I got attacked from behind at knife-point. It's cute!)

The good news is:

1.) I got the buy 3, get 1 free special!

2.) The 4th one came back clear as well

and

3.) I once again did not have any trouble staying conscious (and I didn't even take part in the Coke/Snickers/Drugs trifecta.)

All this made me and Phoebe very happy! (Phoebes keeps her emotions on the inside.)

This month I also kept busy by texting back and forth with my new little buddy, Casen. I send him pics of myself with heartfelt messages.

And then he gets him Mommy to send me pictures of him like this:

It's a pretty legit arrangement we have going. Especially when shots like this pop up on my phone.

On January 14th, my dear father celebrated his 57th bday!

He celebrated with lots of birthday love, with Connie and Tom (who shares the same bday!), and with cards like this one from my sister-in-law.

That girl CRACKS me up.

On January 17th, GSU started back to school and I experienced life in the Advisement Center on the first day of classes! It was crazy but oh-so-fun!

Other high points of the month involve the pleasant weather. It's been perfect for many evening and weekend walks around the neighborhood.

Night time can look many different ways around here. There seems to always be something fun popping up!

For example, one night me and my handwriting were enlisted to help address wedding invites by our darling bride-to-be Becca!

The invitations - which feature many pictures from the critically acclaimed Marsha Hagan Photography - were awesome, and it was an honor to assist in getting those babies sealed and delivered.

The groom-to-be was hard at work stamping the return addresses on the envelopes. He would stop periodically to ponder how lucky he was to be marrying such an amazing girl.

We kinda love her, too.

Another night was recently spent with a table full of sweet women celebrating our dear Connie's birthday!

We did have one really cute fella join us as well!

Well - all of that pretty much brings us to present day. 2012 is flying by at record speed - and we're just trying to enjoy it one day at at a time!

I've had the same procedure as you did a few times myself. It must be tied to the name. ;-)
